20 Types of Fences to Protect Your Properties

Fence keeps your property safe, protects your privacy, and separates your house from other properties. Different types of fences offer unique benefits, from durability to privacy keeping.

1. Chain Link Fence

Chain link fence is made of galvanized steel wires, which are woven into panels. This fence provides protection without sacrificing sights.

Chain link fence commonly has a “diamond” pattern from the interwoven steel wires. It is popular for the parking lot, prison, dog pound, race tract, and other public spaces.

2. Vinyl Fence

Vinyl is a favorite option for an affordable fence. It has extra durability against outdoor elements. Vinyl is recyclable and safe for families with pets or kids because it does not undergo chemical treatments like wood.

3. Wood Fence

Wood fence is great if you love traditional design. A wood fence comes in various shapes, from slates to horizontal bars. It looks great with a lush yard or flower garden, especially if you grow shrubs and climbing plants. You must coat and stain wood regularly to keep it in good condition.

4. Bamboo Fencing

7. Estate Fencing

Estate fencing is built to match the land contour because it is used to signify property borders. The fence can be as simple as wire strings as wooden poles, but the high-quality ones are made of sturdier material, like light metal. Estate fencing is popular for farms, parklands, or property lands.

8. Split Rail Fence

Split rail fence is made by cutting logs into rails, and staking them to the ground. The fence may zigzag in shape, especially if it is used as land borders. The construction is simple, perfect as a temporary fence or decoration.

9. Picket Fence

Picket fence is a popular wood fence style, consists of vertical boards attached to long a long horizontal board on top. Picket fence is often short and suitable for decoration, such as in a front garden, pond, or backyard.

10. Stockade Fence

Stockade fence was developed from the military-style blockade, which emphasized security and privacy. Originally, the fence was made of planks with sharpened tips. Now, stockade fence is used for decoration and privacy fence.

11. Board on Board Fence

Board on board fence is the more fortified version of the wooden slate fence. You build the fence by placing the boards alternatingly until no sunlight can creep through.

Despite the layered design, board on board fence is easy to construct. It is ideal for privacy, aesthetic, and soundproofing fence.

12. Lattice Fence

Lattice fence is notable for its beautiful, intricate pattern. The fence comes in various sizes and colors. Lattice fence is popular as a decorative element. It provides some degree of privacy without restricting.

13. Shadow Box Fence

Building a fence with extra layers provide more protective element. Shadow box fence looks like a regular picket or slate one, but with several layers.

The vertical panels are attached to two or three horizontal planks. Shadow box fence can be used to protect a house, land, farm, or park.

14. Scalloped Fence

The main function of a garden fence is to keep animals from damaging your flowers or vegetables. It also keeps children from roaming and damage the plants. You can use the garden fence as a decorative element.

For example, an elegant lattice fence is perfect for a flower garden. It can even serve as a growing place for vines.

19. Horse Fence

Horse fence is used to surround the horse farm or riding arena. The fence must be high enough to keep the beast from jumping above it.

However, it must also allow people to easily climb out when necessary. Horse fence can be made of wood, barb wire, and logs or timbers.

20. Decorative Fencing

Decorative fencing has equal emphasis on function and aesthetic. While it offers protection and privacy, it also has beautiful decorations. Decorative fencing is often the upgrade version of the regular fence.

I like that you mentioned about how a decorative fence would be the perfect choice if I’m looking for protection, privacy, and aesthetic features.
