Prepare Your Kid for Winter: Useful Tips from Experienced Parents

Winter is the favorite season for kids. However, it is not a favorite season of parents. Winter walks with kids are a real challenge for adults, and you need to get ready in advance.

This is the only way to guarantee a good result. It will be displayed in the child’s medical record in the form of the presence or absence of colds.

Cool and frosty air is beneficial for the health of a child. But children’s winter outfits should reliably protect them from the impact of the weather. Careful attention to the baby girl clothes winter collections will allow you to get the most out of any walk, regardless of the weather outside.

To go out in winter, there is no bad weather, at least this is what pediatricians say. However, there are definitely improperly dressed children. So, kids’ winter clothes for girls and boys, designed for temperatures up to 14 °F, are not suitable for going outside at -4 °F and vice versa.

1. Winter Clothes for Children: Selection Rules

We have collected general rules of clothing for kids in winter. Read them and apply those that will be appropriate for your climate and weather:

  • The first rule – whatever you buy, buy things exactly in size, as they say, for now, and not for the near future when your kid will grow. Loose clothing in winter will not fulfill its main function – protection from the cold.
  • The weather can be changeable, so we recommend thinking over multi-layer sets and choosing things that are easily combined with each other in style, texture, and color. Several sets can be composed of them, depending on the weather and the purpose of the walk.
  • In the winter wardrobe, there are things of varying degrees of density. As a rule, three layers of clothing should be put on a child: underwear, ordinary things (long-sleeve shirt and pants), outerwear (jacket and warm pants, or an overall).
  • Do not buy clothes that are too expensive, give preference to quality, and do not overpay for brands. Children can easily stain or tear clothes in the kindergarten or playground. Let your toddler feel free and actively move while spending time outside.
  • It is also worth saying that the simpler your child’s clothes are, the faster your little one will learn to cope with them and dress without the help of adults.

An infant who cannot walk should be dressed more warmly. It is better to cover a little one with a blanket in the stroller. As soon as your baby learns to walk, let them stomp in the snow, show interest in this white miracle.

Let your kid fall into the snow, be surprised, or even cry. This is the way little people get their knowledge and understanding of the world.

Walking on their own, children generate more energy, their blood circulation is faster. They are hot. And parents should carefully check the behavior of their child, not to miss the moment when a little one gets cold.

With an active child’s behavior, it is better not to overdo it with clothes. It is better not to touch the nose or hands of kids, as a lot of parents do. The neck should indicate if a kid is cold or not.

The recommendation of experienced parents: if a child spends time outside sleeping in a stroller or sitting on a sled, put on one more layer of clothing on a child. But if a kid runs and actively moves, then there should be one layer less than you have.

If you are going to walk with your child calmly, put on as many layers of clothing as you do on yourself.

Meanwhile, pediatricians warn: until the age of three, a small person does not tremble and chatter from the cold, the body of kids has not yet formed a sufficient fat layer for thermoregulation. It is parents who should check the exchange of heat in the child’s body and respond timely to temperature changes.

2. What a Child’s Winter Wardrobe Should Consist of

Children’s winter clothing for boys and girls should include the following items:

  • A fur coat, coat, jacket, or overall;
  • A jacket, sweater, long-sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, etc.;
  • Semi-overalls, warm pants, and jeans;
  • Thermal clothing made of wool, cotton jersey, or fleece;
  • A hat, scarf, mittens, gloves, muff;
  • Boots, snowboots, and felt boots.

When choosing one or another wardrobe item for the winter, it is essential to take into account the activity of the baby. Children who spend most of their walks in a stroller need warmer outfits, especially if they are used to sleeping outside.
